'Distracted' Berks Driver Hospitalized After Slamming Into Utility Pole: PA State Police

A driver was injured in a single car crash last week in Berks County, authorities said.

Virginia Zartman, 76, was driving westbound on Old 22 about 1/4 mile west of Saddle Road in Greenwich Township when her car left the south side of the road and struck a utility pole around 4:40 p.m. on Jan. 5, Pennsylvania State Police said.

Zartman, of Womelsdorf, was taken to an area hospital with unknown injuries while her GMC Denali was towed from the scene, police said. 

Witnesses reportedly told police she was distracted at the time of the crash.

Zartman is expected to recieve a citation for careless driving.

Eastbound traffic was detoured for around two hours due to downed wires.

No other injuries were reported.
